HOW HOURS OF SITTING ACROSS A SCREEN YOUR NECK AND BACK ?

Do you feel the pain in your neck and back at the end of your work day? Well, you are not alone. The problem is very common in most of the professionals who spend hours working in front of a screen.

The effect of your extensive screen-time only gets more serious with every passing day. But it is hard to just take a break from your routine every now and then to focus on your health. Additionally, lack of any other activity throughout the day may worsen the condition.

So what happens when you spend most of your time sitting in front of the screen?

Sitting in the same position for long can leave your spine stiff or sore. This happens because a lot of pressure is put on the bones and muscles of your back, especially lower back. It also results in the tightness of your hip flexors, which are an essential support to your spine.

Similarly, your neck muscles are strained when the screen is placed at a wrong angle. Looking in the same direction with a discomfort to your neck muscle for hours leads to soreness and pain.

Now, imagine following the same routine everyday for years. The bones & muscles in your back and neck are subjected to stiffness and strain everyday, ultimately leading to permanent damage.

How do you avoid it?

Sitting habits and postures are the first and foremost things one should work upon, especially in the work from home routine. We usually adjust our posture according to the work surroundings and our desk, when it has to be the other way around. Choosing the right chair is the most essential step. Once you set up your desk and the system according to your comfort, start following the habit of sitting upright with your system at a safe distance to keep your neck, back and eyes healthy.

Breaks are just as important for your physical health as they are for your mental wellbeing. A few stretches in between these breaks will help you a long way. Walk around, or take your time to look away from the screen for a while every few hours.

Be aware of the habits that can harm and the ones that can benefit our body in the long run. Follow a routine that takes care of your mental and physical wellbeing.
